Empowering 50 VPs to shape and strengthen culture
Client: Fortune 500 Company
Industry: Biotechnology
Challenge
Company leaders didn't feel connected to the culture, as it was defined by a few at the top. Functional silos and global expansion created subcultures and an inconsistent enterprise-wide cultural identity.
HR management wanted all leaders to recognize culture as a core driver of business success—embedded in everyday actions and decisions—and to take ownership for shaping and upholding it.
Solution
Cultivate partnered with leaders to craft an empowering culture for cross-functional Vice Presidents. This included a custom immersive experience to explore the key tension points, decision-making trade-offs, and actionable insight on how leaders can manage them.
A key component of the experience was a recognition of "organizational sub-cultures" - identifying how functions across the organizations are interdependent and how leaders play a critical role in shaping and aligning culture through day-to-day experiences.
Results
VPs took several lessons from the experience, including a recognition that their actions and behaviors "are culture" - developing personalized action strategies to commit to positively impacting the organizational culture and the cultural attributes on their teams.
Cultivate partnered to roll this experience to multiple cohorts of Vice Presidents and cascaded the experience to the Director-level as well.
Empowering leaders to bring teamwork principles to life
Client: Major Medical Device Company
Industry: Pharmaceuticals, Medical Device
Challenge
The company had developed a new set of principles in conjunction with a business school that were words on a page and people didn’t feel in their hearts. There were varying levels of familiarity with the new team principles, and management wanted more awareness as well as more real connection to the principles, the mindset behind them, and their application to daily work.
Solution
We crafted a learning experience that immersed teams in a real-life case study – a patient with an ostomy who wants to do a Tough Mudder run. By considering a complex scenario and assigning roles to play, leaders applied the team principles to collaboratively decide how to advise the patient.
We then trained the leaders to take their teams through the same experience.
Results
The top 100 leaders in the company went through the scenario-based learning experience, including the executive team themselves. They then cascaded the experience within their organizations to the top 1,000 leaders in the company. One leader said, “it made me really think about the team principles and how I will apply them.”
We were invited back to deliver a new experience to the top 100 at their global leadership offsite to further embed and catalyze the principles.
Facilitating a strategic corporate-university partnership and empowering 220+ future bioscience leaders
Client: Fortune 500 Company
Industry: Biotechnology
Challenge
As a cutting-edge biotech business, leadership recognized the importance of sharing its innovation approach and forming a purpose-driven partnership with a leading academic institution.
The aim was to create mutually beneficial opportunities to nurture biotech talent and empower students of diverse backgrounds to pursue impactful careers.
Solution
Cultivate partnered with Harvard Medical School to develop a custom experience designed to bring the company's innovation model to life for students. The experience brought to life examples from the company's history to showcase how bold ideas, inclusive thinking, and creative problem-solving can drive scientific progress.
The interactive experience challenged students to utilize these principles to form new experiments, question their assumptions, and explore novel solutions to meet the world's toughest challenges.
Results
The Innovation workshop was a transformative experience for students (65 NPS) and empowered future bioscience leaders to embed innovation into their research and work.
The long-term impact of this work was to strengthen the strategic partnership with this Ivy League Institution around shared goals of access, potential and impact – serving as the foundation of ongoing collaboration.
